Let’s talk about life in the country and in the city. Describe your place.

To begin with I should say that I like my home. Certainly it's essential to have modern facilities like central heating, running water, all kinds of electric appliances, which make our life easier, more enjoyable and pleasant. But I'm convinced that all these things are not so important as the relaxing friendly atmosphere at home.

So I'd like to tell you a few words about my housing conditions. I live in a three- room flat of a five-storeyed block of flats. The design of the building is rather old, because it was built long ago.

My house has a very pleasant and convenient location.

Our flat is on the… floor. The flat consists of a living-room, my parents' room and my room. Of course, there's a kitchen and a bathroom, two halls and a lavatory. All the rooms are separate. We have all modem conveniences such as central heating, electricity, gas, cold and hot running water and a telephone.

I think our flat is nicely furnished. There are no luxury things in it but all the rooms look cosy and attractive.

Our living-room is the largest in the flat. This room looks very nice, because the curtains on the windows match the wallpaper and the furniture. All this makes the room cosy.

The parents' bedroom and my room are practically of the same size.

It's really wonderful to have a room for yourself. I think it means that I've got some independence and privacy. It contains almost everything I need. I use my room as a study, where I do my homework. My friends often come to my place and we like to get together in my room. They say that they would also like to have such a big and nice room as mine.

Our kitchen is fairly large. But when we receive guests or have our family celebrations, we have our meals in the living-room.

I really like my flat, because it's cosy and comfortable. Everything in my home is dear and precious to me. The house starts to be home when it is warmed by the people who live in it, doesn't it?

Where would you like to live: in the city or in the country?

Lots of people prefer living in cities rather than in the countryside because it is often easier to get good education and find a well-paid job. Besides, there is usually a wide choice of public transport. What is more, there are a lot of interesting things to do and places to see. If you live in the village, you have almost nowhere to go, but if you live in the city, you can eat in good restaurants, visit museums, and go to the theatre and to concerts.

However, some people choose to live in the countryside because living in a city is often very expensive. It is particularly difficult to find good cheap accommodation. What is more, public transport is sometimes crowded and dirty. On the contrary, the air in the countryside is very clean and there are no noisy crowds, so living in the country can be useful for your health

As for me, I would prefer city life because I am keen on visiting theatres, cinemas, museums and galleries and don’t mind noise and pollution. Besides, my city offers me good opportunities to continue my education and I hope to find a prestigious job in the future. However, I enjoy the peace and fresh air of the countryside and in summer I usually go to my country house where I have a good time with my friends.

I fully agree that the room you live in reflects your character and personality. For instance, if the room is messy you can think that the person is not organized, untidy. Of course, you can learn a lot about the person’s hobbies, interests. For example, if you see shelves full of books you can say that the person is intelligent, well-read as he is fond of reading. If you see some posters you can understand what actors or singers the person is crazy about.

I would like to live in a big cottage with all modern conveniences such as … . There are two floors in my dream cottage: the ground floor and the first floor. There is a sitting-room, a dining-room, a kitchen and a hall on the ground floor of my dream house. The bedrooms and bathrooms are on the first floor .The living-room is the largest room in the house. You can see a fireplace in my dream house. We will read books, watch TV, listen to music or sit in front of the fireplace on long winter evenings. The kitchen is large and spacious. I would like to have a big room for my children. If you look out of the windows you can see a blue lake with clear water. And if you go out of the house you can see many wonderful flowers, different trees, children’s playground and a big dog, which guards our home.
