It is of course, wonderful if your child has taken to school life like fish to water, however, not all children may adapt the same way or at the same pace. It may be infuriating to deal with a wailing kid every morning or afternoon. However, your patience and understanding of your child’s situation is exactly what he or she needs at the moment to help him or her in adapting to school. While three years in kindergarten may have given your child some form of preparation for life in school, certainly, nothing quite compares to the real thing. The increase in intensity in terms of timing and learning, especially to a young child, may be too much to take suddenly. Being in an entirely new environment with unknown faces all around him, and school can be very intimidating to a young child. Look for signs of anxiety in your child and help him or her to soothe these fears. Take the time every day to sit down with your son or daughter and talk him through his or her timetable the next day and what he or she can expect. After which, pack his or her school bag together so that your child can have the confidence that he or she is ready for the school day. Set up a schedule for your child to follow if you had not done so already. While the early days may be difficult, this will help your child to develop a rhythm day to day which will help him or her feel more settled down. Find the opportunity to talk to your child’s teachers. Allow them to understand your child better while at the same time, try to understand from the teachers what issues your child may be facing in the class room. Being in a results oriented society such as ours, it can be easy as parents, for us to become obsessed by our children’s academic performance, without us even noticing it. However, it is early days yet, and at this stage, it is more important to get your child to enjoy school first. As such, allow him or her ample time to unwind after school and do the things he or she enjoy or watch his or her favourite cartoons as long as he or she is up to date in completing the assignments given by the teachers. Bonding time between parent and child is of course always important, so make yourself available to lend a listening ear to your child and hear about his or her day in school everyday. As compared with kindergarten, your child will be given more autonomy in doing certain things, such as going to the toilet and buying food or stationaries. Practise with your child often at home, to make sure that he or she knows how to clean up properly or how to calculate what amount of change to get back in different situations. Practise definitely makes perfect and the more practise your child gets, the more confident he or she will be in facing the different situations he or she may face. It is always stressful, even as adults, when venturing to an entirely new environment, much less for a six year old kid! Never stop with your encouragement and support for your child and very soon, you may be surprised yourself as to how excited your child has found school to be. - Copyright © 2015. My Research Work My name is Mitsukova Yevgeniia. I am 34 years old. In 2004 I graduated from Donetsk State Institute of Health, Physical Education and Sport having gained the diploma of physical Rehabilitation. Then I continued to improve my education level, studying at Sevastopol State University. So, all in all, I have gained Master’s degree – psychology. I decided to do my research work connected with of Socio-psychological determinants of primary adaptation of first-graders. The topic of our dissertation is Socio-psychological determinants of primary adaptation of first-graders. My scientific advisor is Kadysheva L. B. He is Doctor of psychological sciences. The theme of our dissertation is rather actual. Adaptation of the first class - a special and difficult period in the life of the child, he develops a new social role of the student, a new kind of activity - training; changing social environment, there are classmates, teachers, the school as a large social group, which included a child; Finally, it changes his lifestyle. Six-seven-year child has been the basic prerequisites exercise: methods of cognitive activity, motivation. Formation of it as the student occurs only in the process of learning and the whole school life. The process of the formation under favorable conditions, covers the first half of the first year of schooling. Going to schoolis a turning point in the life of a child. A distinctive feature of the provisions of the student, the student is that his study is mandatory activities. For her, he is responsible to the teacher, school, family. Theoretical and practical significance. During the study we attempted diagnostic indicators of social and psychological adaptation of first-graders. There were peculiarities of social and psychological adjustment and the conditions for its success. The resulting material can be used in the primary school teachers, psychologists and other specialists of educational institutions. Results of the study: 1. Indicators of socio-psychological adaptation of children to the school indicate that most first-graders show the average level of its components such as the effectiveness of training activities, the assimilation of school norms of behavior, the success of social contacts and emotional well-being. Overall, about 43% of students of group A and 32% in group B need psychological treatment to improve the level of adaptation to the school. 2. The most prominent factors in maladjustment in primary school children are the inertia of the nervous system, lack of arbitrariness mental functions, hyperkinetic syndrome, violations of intellectual activity, low motivation of educational activity. These reasons do not disappear spontaneously, but need special complex correction. 3. Results obtained during the diagnosis of learning motivation, show that the most severe types of motivation among younger students are games and educational-cognitive activity. This means that students have already formed part of the activities leading school-age children, and the other part has focused on preschool activities. 4. Sociometric study demonstrated that the social status of many children does not meet their needs for emotional exuberance. This suggests that children do not meet their need in the classroom to talk to. The problem could be in the low cohesion of the students at the initial stage of forming the student group. To improve the cohesion necessary to carry out targeted psychological work. We are going to submit our dissertation in two years. |
